Homemade Holiday Dog Treats: No-Bake Coconut Snowballs

It’s cookie season! If you’re like us, then you love to use this time of year as an excuse to bake yummy goodies for your family and friends. We think our pups deserve some homemade holiday cookies too! Today, we're sharing a fantastic recipe for No-Bake Coconut Snowball Dog Treats, originally from Rover.com and created by the talented Kiki Kane. These treats are not only delicious but also healthy and festive, making them a perfect holiday snack for your dog, and great gifts for the pet parents in your life!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

  • 1/2 cup coconut flour

  • 1 cup oat flour (We made our own by grinding up rolled oats in a food processor or blender)

  • 1 cup plain nonfat yogurt

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened natural peanut butter

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • A bowl of shredded coconut (for rolling the treats)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Ingredients: Start by placing all the ingredients in a food processor. Pulse everything until the dough begins to hold together. This is your base for the dog treats.

*We found it was easier to first grind up the oats, and then add all of the ingredients to a bowl and knead the dough with our hands

  2. Form the Balls: Once your dough is ready, take a handful and form it into balls. Feel free to adjust the size based on your dog's preference. Smaller balls for tiny breeds and larger ones for the big dogs!

  3. Coat with Coconut: Now, roll each ball in the flaked coconut. Squeeze the balls gently as you roll them to help the coconut flakes stick properly.

*If you have trouble getting the coconut to stick to the balls, just add a little more yogurt to the dough!

  4. Refrigeration: Once all your treats are rolled and coated, place them in the refrigerator. It's important to keep these treats refrigerated and use them within a week.

Remember, while treats are a wonderful way to show love to your pet, it's important to give them in moderation as part of a balanced diet.

Thanks to Rover.com and Kiki Kane for this amazing recipe! Your dog is sure to love these homemade treats. Happy baking and happy holidays!
