    Purpose of Position: Bark + Boarding is currently looking to hire pet sitters and mid-day dog walkers in Arlington, Alexandria, and Falls Church VA!

    Recurring Mid-Day Dog Walkers – We will give you a recurring Monday to Friday schedule (please be willing to make a 6 month (minimum) commitment and be available every Monday to Friday from approximately 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM - no exceptions)

    Fill-In Mid-Day Dog Walkers - For all those walks that we need help covering when Recurring Mid-Day Dog Walkers need a break. Schedule is flexible and walks will be scheduled Monday to Friday from approximately 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM.

    Pet Sitters - Schedule is flexible and you can pick up as many or as little visits as fits your schedule. Visits range from morning, mid-day, evening, late night, to overnight visits.

    Some things to consider before applying:
    1. Must have cell phone, insured car and internet access
    2. Must consent to background check
    3. Dogs can occasionally exceed 80lbs
    4. Must be comfortable being outdoors in all types of weather.

    Purpose of Position: To provide welcoming, attentive customer service to our clients through utilization of knowledge and proficiency in all aspects of reception duties, through communication, education, and dedication. As part of the Administrative team at Bark + Boarding, you will be responsible for record keeping activities, perform clerical duties related to pet care and treatment, and provide miscellaneous support to General Manager and Owner. These service functions include but are not limited to reception (visitor and telephone), maintenance of records, accounts maintenance, cash processing, data entry, word-processing and mail service. This position requires an outstanding customer service attitude with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

    The individual must be able to prioritize multiple projects, work well under pressure and have administration experience. Position requires a strong ethical commitment to the mission and purpose of Bark + Boarding.

  • Position Status: Full-Time or Part-Time (including weekends and holidays)

    Purpose of Position: As a Daycare Attendant at Bark+Boarding, you will be responsible for supervising play in our busy dog daycare program. Much of the job involves monitoring play while being aware of various play styles and ensuring that all dogs are safe, stress-free, and having fun. You will also be expected to help maintain a clean play space for the dogs by watching for, picking up, and properly disposing of any waste. You will help dispense food during meal times, and may be asked to administer medications.

    Daycare is an interactive play environment and carries some inherent risks, both to the dogs and to the staff. Our #1 priority here is safety, and the daycare team plays an integral role in keeping everyone (dog + human) free from harm. You will be expected to be able to recognize a potential problem before it escalates, and to know how to quickly and carefully break up any situation. Although fights in the daycare are rare, if one does happen you will be expected to involve yourself without hesitation.

    Additional Responsibilities: We are a small business and therefore everyone is expected to help with other tasks when needed. Other things which you may be asked to help with include cleaning, taking boarding dogs outside, feeding meals to boarding dogs, bathing dogs, and general housekeeping around the building such as sweeping or mopping.

    Physical Requirements: This job includes prolonged standing and walking. You must be able to move quickly in the event of a fight. This job includes occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds) and frequent bending.

  • Position Status: Part-Time

    Purpose of Position: This position requires an enthusiastic, patient approach to dealing with the pets; ability to learn and adhere to the Bark + Boarding’s standards and procedures; humane treatment of the animals at all times is required; must learn and develop skills necessary to effectively and efficiently bathe and finish pets. The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to be exposed to water, soaps, and blowing air for extended periods of time; must be able to stand for entire work day and have the ability to lift 50 pounds.

    Qualifications:
    1. Certified through an accredited Grooming school, or 3 breed technical.
    2. Preferably at least 2 years Grooming or Salon experience.
    3. Familiarity with dogs, dog breeds, dog behavior either through formal training or work experience.
    4. Affection for animals, concern for their welfare and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace.
    5. Dependable, reliable, and highly motivated.

    Physical Requirements: Maintaining a professional demeaner and dress at all times in the workplace. Clean appearance and positive attitude helps convey respect for customers and co-workers. Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to bend, lift and reach. Ability to lift and move objects and animals weighing up to 50 pounds for short distances and to humanely restrain an animal when necessary. Ability to withstand prolonged exposure to cat and dog hair. Rabies inoculations are required or must be waived.

  • Position Status: Part-Time

    Purpose of Position: This position requires an enthusiastic, patient, positive reinforcement approach to dealing with the dogs; ability to learn and adhere to the Bark + Boarding’s standards and procedures; and ability to practice humane treatment of the dogs at all times. You should be able to conduct group classes and one-on-one training sessions with client’s dogs. Must be able to identify problem behaviors and create a training plan to promote good behavior, and be able to help the owner transfer those skills into the home and/or real life scenarios. Being able to communicate with clients, answer questions, and provide positive feed back is a must.

    Qualifications:
    1. Certification through an accredited Dog Training program or willingness to enter Bark + Boarding educational program to become certified.
    2. Use of positive reinforcement techniques
    3. Previous dog handling experience
    4. Ability to evaluate dogs dispositions, temperaments, and read body language
    5. Flexibility in an ever-changing industry.
    6. Excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
    7. Patience, enthusiasm and a strong love for dogs!
